Instant customization is a key feature of X-keys. The industry-standard jog wheel and shuttle ring can be assigned to frame-by-frame, fast-forward, and reverse functions in editing or replay applications. Users can add or remove keys, blockers, and large keys to create an intuitive layout for their workflow. Grouping keys with related functions improves efficiency and allows users to focus on creative elements rather than searching for tools or functions in the interface. Two tall keys, one wide key, and a key puller are included, and large keys and key blockers are available as accessories.

The clear key lenses securely hold legends and protect them from wear. Users can select from a sheet of pre-printed icons or create their own legends on the blank sheet provided. Clearly labeling dedicated keys improves efficiency and shortens training time for new users.

X-keys come with included software for Windows and macOS. MacroWorks 3.1 for Windows features a wide range of macros, including shortcuts to frequently used programs, folders, and files. Keyboard Maestro for macOS supports all X-keys programmable keyboards, excluding joysticks, T-bar, Jog & Shuttle, and some KVM models. However, users can change the LEDs on a Windows computer in Hardware mode. MacroWorks 3.1 is included as a free download with all X-keys USB devices.

Keystrokes and combinations can also be written into the X-keys memory to emulate a USB keyboard or mouse function on any operating system. Using MacroWorks for Windows, users can take advantage of this feature.

X-keys offer application-specific layers and special functions. Using MacroWorks for Windows, each application on the system can have its own set of dedicated keys, allowing the same key to trigger different macros in different programs. An array of special functions, including F13-F24 keys, multimedia commands, time and date insert, and more, are selected under the Functions tab in MacroWorks. Complex macros can be constructed and edited line by line, including delays, repeats, and separate macros on press and release of an X-key.

X-keys are perfect for timeline editing control or instant replay, supporting keystrokes, game controller, and media commands. They feature individual addressable backlighting under each key and are suitable for desktop, mounted, or hand-held use. X-keys can be programmed with Windows XP-Windows 11 and macOS 10.14-macOS 13, while Linux users should expect to pre-program their X-keys with 'Hardware Mode' prior to bringing them over to Linux installs.
